Young Dedicated Proper
Young Dedicated Proper, aka “YDP” :
An emcee, dancer, performance artist, and videographer from California. Although her music genres range from Hip Hop/Rap, R…&B, Pop, and EDM, she has an affinity for West Coast and Bay Area “hyphy” sounds. She is the sole owner of her company, No Label Entertainment, through which she is able to market her music, create and sell merchandise, as well as provide videography services for herself and other artists.
YDP spent most of her adolescence in Richmond, on the eastern side of the Bay Area, but spent summers in the Watts neighborhood in Los Angeles. Consequently, YDP was exposed to Gangsta Rap (2Pac, N.W.A., Snoop Dogg) and Hyphy music (Too Short, E-40, Keak da Sneak) from a young age and her love for Hip Hop music and culture grew just as she did. YDP began writing raps at age 13, as she was greatly affected by the incarceration of her older brother. She credits him as the original YDP. Dealing with many issues that black youth face such as poverty, gang violence, and domestic turmoil, music was YDP’s way of expressing her frustrations and emotions.
YDP’s debut EP “Wild Wild West” is a tribute to the California lifestyle, featuring elements of Gangsta Rap, Hyphy, and Pop. The EP’s single, “New Cocktails” is a crowd favorite at live performances and boasts more than 16,000 plays on her Soundcloud. “My Music is made for everybody. If you want to party, I have that. If you’re missing family or celebrating family and friends, I relay that in my music,” said YDP. YDP’s music is available on most music platforms including Spotify, Soundcloud, Datpiff, and Bandcamp. She was one of the opening acts during The Beat Cellar Tour (Summer 2016), with shows in California, Las Vegas, and Arizona. During Summer 2015, she was a semi-finalist in the Team Backpack Mission Underground online auditions and participated in the Live Cypher Draft in Los Angeles. She has been interviewed on Spotify, “A Vibe Called Quest” (90.5 FM KSJS), Da MaddHouze, and WBKE Sin City Vegas Radio. She has also been featured on the “On-The-Daily” Hip Hop blog, hosted by Hawaii-based Rapper & Blogger Jehzan Exclusive.
Just like her name states, YDP remains dedicated to her craft. She is always trying to learn more whether she is writing lyrics, editing videos, or networking, all while running her own business. She seeks to have her story told through her music, with hopes to reach a mainstream audience. Regardless, she remains humble and open to opportunity. Her recent singles “Work” (featuring Joe Kool) and “Smokers Session” (Prod. by Blunted Beatz) are also available. Lastly, YDP is a student of Expressions College for the Digital Arts and was an extra in Kendrick Lamar’s music video for “Alright” (2015).
